Since April 1, 2018 the Grande Prairie forest area has actioned 17 Wildfires all have been extinguished. The existing Fire Advisory will remain in place for our area.  Every precaution is needed to ensure no new wildfires are started placing additional strain on the province's firefighting resources. COBBLESTONE HOUSE FIRE On May 15th, just after 4pm the Grande Prairie 911 center received emergency calls for a report of a structure fire from neighbours in the Cobblestone area. Grande Prairie Fire Department responded with 15 fire fighters on 1 Engine, 1 Squad, 2 ladder trucks and a command vehicle. Upon arrival one home was fully engulfed in flames and was threatening neighbouring homes. TRANSIT ROUTE #5 PILOT SERVICE TO AVONDALE AND NORTHERN ADDICTIONS BEING DISCONTINUED Grande Prairie Transit is ending service on the portion of Route 5 serving Avondale and the Northern Addictions Centre on June 1, 2018. This portion of Route 5 was established as a pilot project in March of 2017 to test demand for transit in this area. The meeting began with a presentation from Joanne Gravel, Executive Director, Society for Support to Pregnant & Parenting Teens. She shared with them how their November donation of $12,300 impacted their organization. Following that we heard from three amazing charities. The Bear Lake, Demmitt, Hommy, Kleskun Hill and Pipestone Creek Campgrounds and the Old Bezanson Townsite offer great amenities such as complimentary firewood and interactive playgrounds as well as a wide range of recreational activities for campers.
