Rotary Undercover 2017 Campaign

Rotary Undercover 2017 Campaign

Rotary Club of Grande Prairie Sunrise

Dear Pastor Doug and the GP Ministerial Association,
The Sunrise Rotary Club of Grande Prairie is proud to announce the Dignity Drive 2017 Campaign. Our goal is to collect 1000s of pairs of men’s and women’s underwear and socks by May 31, 2017 for homeless and street-involved men and women in Grande Prairie.

Why underwear and socks?
Underwear and socks are the most needed staple clothing, but are the least donated items to centers that shelter and serve homeless and street-involved individuals. Access to clean underwear and socks is essential for one’s comfort, health and hygiene. Wearing clean underwear and socks also contributes significantly to one’s sense of value and dignity as well as one’s confidence and motivation to aspire; this is especially crucial for individuals who are attempting to transition out of homelessness and away from street-related activities.
Which sizes are needed?
All sizes of men’s and women’s socks and underwear are needed.

What can you do to help with this campaign?

1. Please consider placing an announcement at your church services and/or in any newsletter publications you provide to your parishioners requesting donations of new men’s and lady’s socks and/or underwear. Donations can be dropped at Center 2000 or if your church collects, I would be happy to pick-up (call Janice at 780-814-1088)

2. Assisting with the collection of financial donations by inviting parishioners to make a monetary contribution and we will them purchase the sizes/gender that are needed most.

Who else is involved in this campaign?
Community agencies that shelter and serve homeless and street-involved individuals will assist with the collection and distribution of the underwear and socks, including:

The Saint Lawrence Centre: Saint Lawrence is a drop-in centre that provides a safe and comfortable hub for homeless and street-involved people who require a means to receive mail/other messages, use a computer, and do laundry. Access to these practical supports help reduce stress, isolation, and barriers to housing or employment.

Rotary House Rotary House offers 24/7 accommodation to a wide range of clients. Primary services include single-night emergency beds and mats, short-term housing, and permanent supportive bachelor suites.

HIV North Society: Some of the services provided by HIV North include a) HIV education and outreach, b) LGBTQ Youth and Parent Support programs, c) Street Outreach to individuals who experience chronic or episodic homelessness—assisting them in connecting with support networks that enable them to become housed, d) permanent supportive housing, e) drop-in-for street involved women
The Grande Prairie Friendship Centre: This centre administers and implements programs to meet the needs of Aboriginal people migrating to living in urban centres and bridging the cultural gap between the Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal community. Some programs offered include a) the Mamewpitaw Program (an early intervention program for families at risk or families desirous of reunification), b) Aboriginal Headstart, c) Pitone Youth Group (includes cultural teachings, community involvement, volunteer and leadership opportunities, etc.) and d) One Window Resource (a community based drop in program that provides emergency food, 3 evening meals a week, free gently used clothing, hygiene supplies, referrals to agencies, free bread, computer/internet access, job board listings, etc.).
The Sunrise Rotary Club of Grande Prairie would like to thank you for your consideration in supporting the Rotary Dignity Drive Campaign.
