Members of an Arizona church are praying for a miracle after their outreach director was shot in the head while street preaching.

26-year-old Hans Schmidt was promoting Victory Chapel First Phoenix Church on a street corner when the shooting occurred.

A suspect has yet to be identified. In a press release, the Glendale Police Department says they are still investigating and believe there are additional witnesses to this incident who may have information about what happened.

Schmidt, a former military combat medic, husband and father to two young children, is in critical condition, and his church says he is in desperate need of a miracle.

That being said, Victory Chapel First Phoenix Church says the family remains encouraged by what they are seeing and are rejoicing.

"Thank you to all those around the world who have reached out to share your prayers, love, and support," said Victory Chapel First Phoenix Church in a post on their website.

Schmidt's wife, Zulya, made several posts on Facebook asking for prayer.

"I love my handsome cowboy. Keep fighting papi. We need you!!" said Zulya in a social media post. "Believing God has the final say."

To help the Schmidt family, the church has opened up an account for donations for medical expenses. A GoFundMe account has also been set up.

The goal is to raise $20,000. By Wednesday afternoon, over $15,000 had been raised.

"Please continue praying for Hans and his family," said the church in a social media post. "We are believing God for a miracle!"
