The British Columbia government is warning people about a government payment website scam.

The Ministry of Finance provided an example of the scam, which is texted to a person's cellphone, saying their vehicle has been caught speeding with a link to a website where the person can pay the ticket.

The government says the site is identical to the province's Pay-B-C site which gives residents a secure place to pay their bills or for services from the provincial government.

While the government says the two sites cannot be told apart, they say the website addresses are different.
