The British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) has announced that five Alberta teams will be joining their league in the 2024-2025 season including the Alberta Junior Hockey League's (AJHL) Blackfalds Bulldogs. 

The other AJHL teams that have agreed to terms include:

  • Brooks Bandits
  • Okotoks Oilers
  • Sherwood Park Crusaders 
  • Spruce Grove Saints

The BCHL says further information will be announced in the coming weeks but no further comment will be provided until more information is available. 

In response to the announcement the AJHL has made the following statement and cancelled four hockey games within the league. 

"The AJHL was informed through an announcement from the BCHL by five member teams to join the British Columbia Hockey League for the 2024-25 season. No official notice has been provided to the AJHL from the respective teams.

As a League we are assessing next steps and schedule implications. The AJHL will continue to provide unprecedented development opportunities for our athletes within our valuable communities." 

The games that are cancelled include: 

  • January 20, 2024: Olds Grizzlys @ Blackfalds Bulldogs
  • January 20, 2024: Drayton Valley Thunder @ Brooks Bandits 
  • January 21, 2024: Spruce Grove Saints @ Calgary Canucks 
  • January 21, 2024: Whitecourt Wolverines @ Brooks Bandits

The Blackfalds Bulldogs have apologized for the game cancellation on the team's social media page and stated that ticket refunds will be provided within 48 hours.
