During the municipal election, Grande Prairie voters not only had to decide on city and school council members, but also if Alberta would be dropping Daylight Saving Time.

The referendum question asked voters:

Do you want Alberta to adopt year-round Daylight Saving Time, which is summer hours, eliminating the need to change our clocks twice a year?

Provincial results are in and it was very close.

"Yes" had 532,911 votes, which represents 49.9% of ballots cast

"No" came in with 535,745 votes, representing 50.1% of ballots cast.

City of Grande Prairie vote results:

"Yes" had 4,140 votes

"No" had 5,269 votes

County of Grande Prairie vote results:

"Yes" had 2,294 votes

"No" had 2,542 votes

It's official! Alberta will continue to change the clocks twice a year.

Albertans will "fall back" on November 7, 2021 as the clocks are set an hour back.
