The Dawson Creek RCMP would like remind the Dawson Creek Community as we start to enter the colder months of the year to protect your belongings.

Theft from seasonal properties/cabins tend to occur during the colder months of the year and the following tips should be used as a guide to help secure your property:

  • Secure all doors and windows
  • Install a security system that can be accessed through your phone
  • Make the property look occupied such as automatic lights
  • Consider taking expensive equipment home for the season
  • Arrange for regular maintenance such as leaf and snow removal
  • Ask your neighbors to keep an eye out

Also with the temperatures starting to dip, the need to start your car to warm up may be required. The Dawson Creek RCMP would also like to remind you of the following:

  • Do not leave your vehicle unattended with the keys inside
  • Lock your doors and close your windows of your vehicle
  • Take valuables with you
  • Use an anti-theft device

Published previously, most thefts of property or of vehicles are a crime of opportunity and the Dawson Creek RCMP urge the community to protect their belongings to help decrease the chance of thefts from occurring.

If you notice anything that may be suspicious please contact the Dawson Creek RCMP immediately at 250-784-3700 or 911.
